The Keukenhof theme for 2019 has been revealed: Flower Power. In 2019 Keukenhof, Europe’s most beautiful spring garden, will be open from March 21 to May 19.
Every year Keukenhof is being visited by hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world. In recent years even more than 1 million people came to Lisse to watch this beautiful scenery. Keukenhof is often referred to as the Garden of Europe or Amsterdam’s back yard, being close to the Dutch Capital.
The ‘Keukenhof ‘ Spring Garden is part of the Keukenhof estate which includes Keukenhof Castle. In 1642 a farmhouse was built with the name ‘Keukenhof ‘ in the gardens of Slot Teylingen. The profit of this dune area such as game, cattle, herbs and berries were intended for Slot Teylingen’s kitchen. In 1857 the park was refurbished by landscapers Zocher & Sons, designers of the famous Vondelpark in Amsterdam. The official opening of the flower exhibition took place in 1950.
In 2003, the last Lord of Kasteel Keukenhof passed away. Since then, the Kasteel Keukenhof foundation has taken on the responsibility for the maintenance of the estate of over 280 acres of land and the 18 national monuments. The flower garden has more than 7 million crocuses, daffodils, lilies, tulips, hyacinths and other bulbous plants. There are guided tours and you can depart from Keukenhof with an electrical whisper boat to navigate through the bulb fields surrounding the estate. In 2018 Keukenhof will be open from March 21 to May 19, 2019. The flower parade will take place on Saturday April 13, 2019.
